THE ROSEN LECTURES

"The Rosen Lectures"; conducted by Prof David Rosen -  Initial three session courses in lunchtime breaks in November 2024 giving an introduction to advocacy, cross-examination, drafting and ethics in litigation. 

Prof. Rosen is an alumnus of Brunel University and features in Brunel Law School’s Hall of Fame with over 25 years' of post-qualification experience. He operates in civil, family and criminal courts and is intimately acquainted with the culture and approaches expected in each of those environments. He specialises in commercial litigation, family law and finance, with a string of high-profile cases as a solicitor-advocate.

Prof Rosen will be putting into context and perspective what is taught at university as well as what is learnt in your early years of training and practice.  These lectures are held on 3 days over 3 consecutive weeks  as below:- 

1) 13th Nov 24  from 12:00 to 14:00 - will cover  Introduction to Advocacy -  The culture and etiquette of advocacy in England and Wales in different theatres of practice, namely family law, civil law, and criminal law.  Topics will include the psychology of Advocacy, and address judges in different courts.

2)  20th Nov 24 from 12:00 to 14:00  - Will cover Introduction to cross-examination.  Topics will include:- Why cross-examination never goes to plan,  Confirmation and ring-fencing, Thorny interruptions and more.

3)  27th Nov 24 from 12:00 to 14:00 -  Will cover Drafting and Ethics.  Topics will cover; Our four Chiefs in law;Practical application, openings, obstacles, ethics, regulations; A letter of engagement/retainer letter from a solicitor to a client, what is required, what must be covered.

Please note the 3, two-hour seminars to attend either in person, or remotely at Brunel University during a Wednesday lunch hour between 12:00h and 14:00h.
